Book Review On: Percy Jackson and The Sea Of Monsters(By Rick Riordan)

        Percy Jackson The Lightening Thief is an amazing book (all credit due to Rick Riordan), but the second book has taken its place in the spotlight. The fresh new book of the series is Percy Jackson:The Sea Of Monsters. 
       This is an epic follow up book for a Percy jackson and the lightening theif. It reveals more of Percy Special atributes from being the Son of the Sea God Poseidon. One atribute is being able to steer a boat with no trainin like a pro.
       Percy biggest problem in this book is that his best friend Grover is being held capative. Grover was on a search mission for the lost God of the Wild (Pan). Grover was using his nature senses to track him down but this Cyclops messed up his signal and lured him to his cave. But the Cyclops was partially blind so he thought Grover was a girl and tried to marry him. But thanks to Grover and Percy empthy link ,Grover signal Percy in a dream and tells him situation and ask for imediate help.
       Now with Percy on the way to save his best friend with help from his other friend Annabeth. They go through dangerous obstructions to save their friend like Giantic monsters, man-eatting animals, and the sirens song.
      I really hope this inspires you to go read this book. It really is a great book. Once you start reading the series you won't ever want to put the book down. And I say that from personal experiences , its a great way to get in touch with history.

Just A Conscience Or Purposly Done?

        "Broadcasting a World of Whiteness"  is this recent article that we read this week about a show called Girls on HBO having bigotry suggestions towards their casting decisions. Apparently this new t.v show series have an "all white cast" with an couple of interracial people (with few lines).
         This article is written by Jon Caramanica who believes that the show also has racial comments like in episode 2 when "Adam promises to make the “continent of Africa on” Hannah’s arm" and when 
 "Jessa (Jemima Kirke), nervously facing down an abortion, insists, “I want to have children with many different men, of different races,” as if they were trinkets to be collected, like key chains or snow globes."
            Some people think that the cast should be more diverse, but other people think it shouldn't be changed because it is a okay show and has a lot of hits. The creator Lena Dunham doesn't have to put someone she doesn't want to put in, she probably thinks it could mess up the whole flow of the show.
           I'm not saying that I am okay with an all white cast, cause i am not. Also the screen play lines is just a conscience that they sound that way. I am just saying maybe it could and maybe it couldn't. But if some people from different nationalities was put into the flow of the show it would get the bigotry comments.

New Gun Swagg

       In Journalism class this week we read a article called New Fashion Wrinkle : Stylishly Hiding the Gun, about a organization named Woolrich a 182-year-old clothing company. The special thing about this article is that Woolrich Industries are making clothes that are capable of hiding a firearm.
       People say that these type are of clothes are good for protection, they say that this helps gun owners practice "maximum uncertainty" which means meaning that if a gun is sufficiently concealed, a potential criminal will be unsure whether to attack. Gun experts are trying to see if this kind of tactics slow down crime.
        This is a big change because in 1980's people could only conceal their weapons with a permit in 8 states. If this clothing because more popular among gun carries other clothes company like: Polo, Hollister, Abercrombie and other top clothes line.
        I believe that it is a good thing that these clothes are being made, if crime becomes reduced. But if it only causes more pain and suffering then it shouldn't be legal. Yes it will send a message to criminals that you shouldn't mess with just anyone because you don't know what they "have". But some people might use this new crime for their own purposes. By own purposes i mean that they might try to rob a store or someone without a gun .

Abortion Is Not The Only Way Out

         Shayira Farmer a Parkway West Senior presented her senior project to me and my fellow classmates. Shayira topic was on that Abortion is murder and is not the only way unplanned pregnancies can be handled. Shayira stated that about 1.2 million people die because of abortion. Also 15-44 year old had the highest abortion rate in 2000 with 2.1% and Shayira stated that in 1973 the U.S. legalized abortion. . She said her only problem with doing abortion as her senior project was that she found more opinions then facts.
         I think abortion is wrong if you have other opportunities to handle the situation. Many people say that they cant keep the child because they have to go through school and a job to support the child. Abortion should not be your first idea when you find out the big news. You can always give it away for adoption or find a program that helps you plan and get ready for the baby. Even though people think abortion is murder it is still legal and its been that way since 1923.
         But to lessen the rate of abortion we should try and stop people from having unprotected sex if they don't want to deal with the baby later. More options are offered to you instead of surgery to get a abortion; you can take a abortion pill nine weeks in the pregnancy or take a Plan B pill. We should have a health fair like my school did and talk to people about safe sex and hand out condoms.

Book Review On: Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief (By Rick Riordan)

         How would you feel if you found out that all the old Greek gods are real and your the son of the Sea God? And you just found out your being blamed for the theft of Zeus's Master Bolt.You would feel just like "Percy Jackson" in Rick Riordan famous book Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief.
           Percy Jackson was a regular kid that had problems in school because he was diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia. He was having a field trip to a Greek history museum with his best friend Grove, when he noticed he could read the statues and walls that was written in Greek. As his Latin teacher and his Math teacher noticed his behavior they grow curious. Percy's Math teacher asks to speak with him in private, so he follows her and as he turns around to look at where she went she is at the top of the stairs yelling "WHERE IS IT PERCY JACKSON" she then turns into a creature called a Furies and fly after him. Before he could react his Latin teacher (Charon) and Grover walked in. Charon threw him a pen and told him to uncap it and it turns into a sword. Now fighting back and forth with the beast he happens to cut her making her flee.
        I encourage everyone to read this book it is filled with amazing facts about Greek History and will make you want to get interested in Percy's Life. Also go buy the movie it is Awesome (if i may say so myself).

Book Review On Ender's Game ( By Orson Scott Card)

          Orson Scott Card is a NewYork Best Seller Author who has caught my attention with his great book Ender's Game. This is the "go to" book for anyone who likes to read about sci~fi books with a twist.
           Ender's Game is a book based on a war between Earth and Alien Invaders (called "Buggers"). This book takes place in a futuristic world which the people on Earth have made a pact with each other to join together to defeat the Buggers from invading. But the only one who can really stop them from winning this space war in Andrew Wiggin (most people use his nickname Ender).
          Ender is a "Third" (Third child born in a family of genuis) which is illegal in these times. Valentine is the person he holds close's in the world, Peter is a cruel evil genuis who has big hopes on some day ruleing the world. Ender has been taken from home to be trained in a academy in outer space to prepare him for his hard diffcult life, full of life changing experiences and decision making.
Well I don't wanna ruin the book for anyone who has hopes of reading it or whoever is in the process of reading the book. So I will not give any spoilers about the climax.
           Ender's Game is also in comic form and also might become a movie due to the large fan base. The casting for this moving has started already and might be released next year.

The Rate Of Babies Being Born Outta Of Wedlock

          Do you believe your newborn baby girl/boy will grow up in a generation that doesn't care about the sacred ceremony of marriage? Well an article written by Jason DeParle and Sabrina Tavernise called "For Women Under 30, Most Births Occur Outside Marriage" have some people starting to believe it.
          Now-a-days people are starting to think that getting married is not a big deal. Amber strader said " Most of my friends say its just a piece of paper". Its not that they don't want to do it, its just not available to them right now. With the economy in a bad positions and with job cuts/finding they cant cannot afford to do it now.
          The article states that "Some people think marriage is a good thing, and others think it's just a signature on a piece of paper and most of the times it doesn't really work." The idea of faithfulness is starting to be shorten because people now believe that its okay to cheat on someone even while their married(that the "piece of paper" doesn't mean a thing.
         Out of problems in today's world "Single motherhood is one of the most common things happening in the world now." New Fathers are finding it easy to leave their girlfriends with babies and toddlers. But somehow Single Mothers are finding ways to manage with their grandparents helps or programs that are available. Even though single mothers are great children still need a father role model in their life.

Book Review On: Throne Of Fire (By Rick Riordan)

          Beloved author Rick Riordan has done it again with another best sellers for his series: The Kane Chronicles. The book name is Throne Of Fire and  is the follow up book for The Red Pyramid.
          Rick Riordan has proved he is a "awesome" writer again (if i may say so myself). Throne Of Fire is a amazing book with great description and good connections between old Ancient Egyptian history.
         Throne Of Fire is Carter and Sadie continuing where they left off: searching for the Book of Ra). Sadie and Carter have finally gotten used to living in their Brooklyn mansion with there 20 new trainees. However Carter have just received a message from the deity Horus that the first(of three) part of the scroll is in a museum right down the street where they live. Furious by the sudden information they get ready to break into the museum and get the first part of the scroll.  After the "some-what" successful break-in they returned home to manage their wounded.
          But that's all your going to get from reading this blogger review/summary. I encourage more people to read this book. Also be ready for the third book of this series named Serpents Shadow which is due to come out May 1, 2012
                
         
          

FaceBook Could Be Using You

          FaceBook Is Using You is the new article that I have read this week; written by Lori Andrews. This Article is about how Facebook watching and following what you do to offer advertisements. 
          For example say if you was  editing your profile and you put your favorite books, sports, and goals. Face book would sell that information to advertisement company's for money. 
          I think people should only feel violated if they was to sell personal information to buyers but then again i don't think you should even put personal information online because of hackers now-a-days. 
         By Personal information i mean like their phone numbers, where they are going, telling if they have a free house(no one is home), or if they are doing something illicit.
          Some people don't really care what they post on Face book, but sometimes jobs might look at the things you post on Face book, and judge according to what you posted or do because it may portray a bad image to who they think you really are. 
          Recently I have been watching what I post on my status because I have family members as friends and a program that gives me college courses is one of my friends also. So I now make sure that I watch my language and behavior.
          From reading this article i will always watch what I post and spread the word to make sure everybody doesn't make a little mistake that can mess up their futures.

Book Review On : The Red Pyramid(By Rick Riordan)

          Rick Riordan author of the famous The Percy Jackson And The Lightening Thief Series has done it again with another best seller called The Kane Chronicles: The Red Pyramid Book 1. This book has a rating of 31,406 likes, this book is worthy of being read.
         In my eyes Rick Riordan is a amazing writer when it comes to Mythology. I have read all of the "Percy Jackson Series" and "The Red Pyramid". The Red Pyramid is a fantastic book it has a great plot, its educational, and it has a great climax.
        The Red Pyramid  is basically about Sadie & Carter Kane(brother and sister) telling their story of how they came to find out that Egyptians Gods are real and how they get involved in help saving the world(over a recording mic).
          The beginning of this book starts with Carter and Sadie who lost their mother and deal with the disappearance of their father who might never return. Carter and Sadie has been raised apart(Carter traveling around the world with his dad and Sadie to stay with her grand parents) because they were too powerful to be together. Once the two are brought together because of their Fathers so called "mistake" they are introduced into the ancient world of Egyptian Mythology.
          Fans are hungry to read the second book of the edition called : Throne Of Fire Book 2 of the series. I hope for the best on this series of books

Are You A Criminal??

                                         
           In a recent article we have been reading in class called "I'm a criminal and so are you". And it had me thinking on if what the details it presented was really true.
           "I'm a criminal and so are you" is a article written by Michelle Alexander. Ms.Alexander has been researching on what we label criminals now-a-days. Michelle starts the article saying she had started to telling people recently that shes a criminal and when someone asks what she has been convicted of she says nothing. So people ask "Well, then why do you say you're a criminal?" she responds "Because I am a criminal, I say, just like you".
          I think that how we treat a criminal that has been convicted is very outrageous if there crime was something minor like robbing a store or holding/selling of drugs.
          Haven't you ever heard the quote "Do the crime, You do the crime". If the person has done the time for his crime and has learned to not make the same mistake twice why should he be seen as just another criminal. Say for a example if a person has been in jail for robbing a store and after he gets out and after a year or two he goes and try to find a nice job at a grocery store or appliances store but cannot attain the job because he has a past as a criminal.
         Really? Come on every one deserves a second chance to show that they are capable of change. 

Finding out if it is Photo Booth or Not

     This new article my teacher told us about goes over the research of Dr Farid and Eric Kee; both Ph.D. students in computer science at Dartmouth. There research tells us how celebrity's and regular people uses Photo Booth and other editing application to make fix the faults in the looks and how they are creating a machine to edit it.
     Me personally I never edited or shaped up any of my pictures. I think that when the people that takes like class pictures and single pictures that you can order, did some kind of editing but me myself personally i never did any editing.
     I wouldn't encourage editing your photo or anyone else because its false advertisement. Say if you was applying for a runway model for a fashion show. And when they bring you into for a try out run they would feel let down. They would want natural beauty not any photo booth corrections.
      A tool to help decide how much a photo has been change would be a good use to me. I would use it on people pictures on Facebook to see how much they altered their looks because i dont misleading things.

      For people that intend to use photo shop to edit their photos make sure that you are skilled in the art of doing it. I know you wouldn't want any "rookie" mistakes like making ur nose bigger or some other trait unorthodox. You would want the best edit you could get.

An "Apple" a day will not keep the doctor away in this situation

      In a recent article I read named "In China, Human Costs Are Built Into an iPad" it was about how a Apple Factory exploded after the air vents being filled with aluminum dust and how they treat there companies workers in japan. They also give you the life story of a worker named Lia Xiodong.
       The Apple factory had exploded on a Friday evening last May.Two people were killed right as the explosion happened and a dozen of over people was hurt. Ambulances filled with injured people and they stated that they saw one face that stood out of all of them with completely messed up face because of the heat from the explosion that was of course Lia Xiaodong.
       If I had to either pick between working with the conditions Apple provides or be a waiter. I would choose a waiter because I can work and be sure to know that I don't have to worry about any hazard dangers killing or hurting me. I couldn't go to work all day knowing that i may die because of the dangerous machinery around me.
      " Just two weeks before the explosion, an advocacy group in Hong Kong Published a report warning of unsafe conditions at the Chengdu plant", Debby Chan Sze Wan of the group said "There was no response". The fact that they didn't respond to the warning sends the feeling that Apple didn't care what happen to anyone.
         I feel very depressed for the families and friends that have suffered a lost in this explosion that killed about 16 to 18 people. 

"The Nintendo Wii": Trying Again To Get To The Top

             WWW.CNN.COM has released a article with Nintendo Called "First Look at "Nintendo Wii U". The "Nintendo Wii U" is a new "instrument" in "Nintendo" technology. The "Wii U" is a new upgraded device for enhancing motion control for gamers needs.
              After a period of time where "Nintendo" has not made a improvement in there technology they come out with a new way to enjoy their gaming experience. They have made a new design for the "Wii U" console and a new touch screen controller. The touch screen control is the same size as the console. The touch screen controller looks at first like a lot to control but its pretty simple after a few lessons but don't worry the game system is still playable through the old controls.
              The Nintendo Wii to me is a okay system. I own one and i enjoyed a couple of games that it had to offer but then i got bored with it. The graphics and the way things are played is not as fun as the competing game systems (Xbox360 & Ps3).
              If "Nintendo Wii U" is as good as they make it out to be ill get it but i want it to have better graphics then the old one and out match the old "Wii". The graphics and touchscreen controller should be better than Xbox360 and Ps3 i want it to out shone the other games. The "Nintendo Wii U" should make more people fall back in love with the console.
             

My Response: "Teaching Kids How To Break Up Nicely"

         This article “Teaching Kids How To Break Up Nicely” seems so point-less to me. It has one argument on changing your “Facebook Relationship Status”. It may say “Teaching Kids How To Break Up Nicely” but I have learned more from my older cousin then this paper. I’m not saying this paper is really bad I’m just thinking that it lacks support and different examples of break up situations. 

 

 

         The article basically goes over “Roberto a 17year old” argument about “racing to change his relationship status to single as soon as he gets home and some celebrities example on how to end a relationship in a good way and in a bad way. For example they show how “Kayne West” writes a “mean” song about “Amber Rose” after their breakup as a bad example. To Show a good example they showed a few pictures of Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz relationship of being friends after their break up.

Then when they showed “Sammi and Ronnie from Jersey Shore” another example of how not to end a relationship which is the same thing that they have talked about just a short time period ago. So I am getting the impression that after they spent a whole day conferencing and discussing a way to break up nicely and did not even come up with one sure thing to do or you should do when in it comes down to breaking up.

One Of Many Good Thing's That Came Out Of 2011

      The past year 2011 has had its ups and downs. I'm going to talk about one of the ups that came from it. I mean "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1" which came out on November 18, 2011. It is a well known movie.

      Since "Twilight" has release the info that the next Twilight was coming out many fans was waiting. And at opening night the theaters was packed full of people who couldn't wait to see the film. Some many people that it was outrageous. Just to see it first people went to the theaters at 12:00 at night. Even the die-hard fans was seeing the movie more than 3 or 4 times.
     "Twilight Breaking Dawn:Part 1" was a great movie. Most people say it should've been rated R due to the images and things the screen shows. Like in one scene "Bella & Edward" has just got married and on their way to their private island to consummate their marriage. When they finally settle in they both decide to go for a swim, so "Edward" is waiting in the ocean "Naked" and in the line of the moon waiting for "Bella". "Bella" see "Edward" and gets undressed and walk out to him. After they kiss and hug they go to their room and start having sexual intercourse. During intercourse there is a scene when "Edward" grabs the  headboard (which is marble) and breaks it. The next morning the whole room is destroyed with pieces of the bed everywhere.
      I guess they couldn't make the movie highly rated due to the fan base.

Kim Kardashian How To Get Out Of A Marriage In "72" Days

    In Recent News Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries a couple who have been dating for six months before the engaged in May 2011. They was married in a private estate in Montecito, California in the month of August 20,2011. Then the fairlytale wedding failed in 72 days!
       Is it that Kim Kardashian just wanted the publicity and money that came with the marriage? I believe so because she was dating him more than she was married to him. Kim's marriage was nothing more than a scam to me cause they had a t.v show film them it was called "Kim’s Fairytale Wedding". Plus the big wedding ring she has is a 20.5 carat diamond.
       According To Eonline.com Kim says "'I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision,' she said in a statement to E! News. 'I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best.'" i think that quote was  a very very smart way of making people believe that she was committed to being married.
      Some people say that she was quickly rushed into the marriage. Kris on the contrary was really falling for Kim. For example he says he was "devastated to learn she filed for divorce. I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work." Kris was dedicated since the start. So for his sake I really hope that it wasn't for the money and fame

My Thoughts On The "Morning After Pill"

Recent Discovery in the news has been the presidents approval of the "Morning after pill". The "Morning After Pill" is a pill that can be taken after sex to prevent the fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. The pill must be taken no less than 72 hours after sex.
             I think that the "Plan B" pill is a good product because if someone condom pops open or makes a mistake of not using a condom. Picture this scenario for example you and your friends go partying at a bar,you get drunk and meet this girl that you think is cute. And you have more drinks with this women and you two go home together and have a "One night stand". While under dressing neither of you have a condom and being drunk would you really care? So after that night both of you wake up and find out he didn't use protection. Now perhaps she might actually be in a stage of pregnancy. On the contrary though neither personal is in a position in life to have a kid enter their life. Therefore they can just use the "Plan B" to make certain of any pregnancy notice in the future.
              In support of me saying its a good drug. Their is a age restriction that doesn't allow people under the age of 17 get it without a prescription to buy it. That makes it even better because now you know teens wont just have sex and take the drug; miss using the product for their own enjoyment.
